CHAPS Equine Assisted Services | Volunteer

Are you ready to make a difference?

Volunteers are critical to the success of CHAPS Equine Assisted Services and are a priceless part of the therapeutic team for therapeutic riding, learning, driving and more. Several times throughout the year, CHAPS offers training to acquaint prospective volunteers with the various duties and needs we have for the program. All volunteers are eligible for Presidential Volunteer Service Awards. Hours are tallied by year and awards presented in January each year.

CHAPS offers volunteer training throughout the year. Training is required for safety and to comply with industry standards set by the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH) International.

  • Session Volunteers

Horse leaders and side walkers provide support for riders who are not yet independent riders. By leading a horse or side-walking (similar to a spotter in gymnastics), you are making a difference for a person with special needs who would not be able to participate without your help!

  • Feeder Volunteers

Help keep our facility and stable clean and welcoming for our participants and equine staff. Feeding, turn out, cleaning pens and more are important jobs that keep our riding center clean, safe and professional.

  • Facility Help

Facility volunteers join us for facility clean-up such as cleaning up debris in the pastures, burning slash piles, painting, fixing fence, spraying weeds, mowing grass and running the weed-whacker.

  • Committee/Special Event

Not a horse person? You can still contribute in a variety of ways with the governance of the organization on a number of committees that sustain CHAPS and help the staff provide superior service. CHAPS is also currently seeking additional board members!

Special event volunteers help out once or twice a year for our big events. These events require many people to make them work. From taking tickets to set-up to clean-up, we appreciate the many hands that make light work.

  • Feed Bucket Staff

Reporters and graphic designers who can work under a deadline and produce a monthly e-newsletter for our community to share our success stories and provide education about our services.
